Visceral Work for Women

What is Visceral Work?
As part of Jen’s many hours of massage therapy training, she enjoyed learning about and working with various organs (or viscera) in the body. Stagnation, tension, or twisting in many organs can not only have an impact on the organ itself, but can also be a part of what may be perceived as chronic pain in areas like the neck, shoulders, chest and back.
For instance, a common observation is that when the liver feels congested, clients may feel a chronic discomfort or nagging in the right shoulder. In this example, rather than just working directly with the chronic shoulder problem, she may also guide the liver through gentle unwinding via Myofascial and Craniosacral Therapies to alleviate any stagnation and/or tension. Clients typically experience more pain relief and resolution with this approach versus working on the shoulder alone.

What is a Visceral Work treatment like?
Genrally, Jen will gently work the upper chest, ribcage, abdomen, low back area and/or pelvic areas of the body. She will often involve various types of gentle Movements/Breath Work along with Craniosacral, Chi Nei Tsang and Myofascial Release to help each area soften, clear any stagnation and balance the energy (or chi) in the body. Immediately after a session, clients report feeling deeply relaxed and centered, and that it is easier to take full, deep breaths.

What are the benefits of visceral work?
Improved Digestion: Visceral Work can provide physical & energetic support to various organ related conditions, such as IBS/IBD, Ulcerative Colitis, Crohn’s Disease, Acid Reflux, Spastic Bowel, Constipation, Diarrhea & other digestive conditions.
Improved Digestion: By gently working on the abdominal area, visceral massage can help promote better movement of food through the digestive tract. It may reduce symptoms like bloating, constipation, and indigestion.
Relief from Chronic Pain: Visceral massage may relieve chronic & acute conditions you may not expect, such as: Sciatica, Back, Hip & Knee Pain, Repetitive Stress Injuries, Neck & Shoulder Pain, Whiplash & other physical trauma.
Stress Reduction: Like other forms of bodywork, visceral massage can help activate the parasympathetic nervous system, promoting relaxation, reducing anxiety, and improving overall emotional well-being.
Improved Circulation: The massage can enhance blood flow to the organs and surrounding tissues, which may support the body's natural detoxification processes.
Releasing Tension in the Organs: Sometimes, internal organs can become "stuck" or tense due to stress, poor posture, or trauma. Visceral massage helps to "free" them and restore normal function, improving mobility and flexibility.
Improved Posture: By addressing tensions in the abdomen, diaphragm, and surrounding areas, visceral massage can contribute to better alignment and posture, which can reduce tension in other areas of the body (like the neck and shoulders).
Detoxification: Some believe that visceral massage can help release toxins stored in tissues and improve lymphatic drainage, aiding in overall detoxification.
Enhanced Breathing: Because the diaphragm plays a key role in both breathing and organ function, working with the abdominal area can support deeper, more efficient breathing.
Improve Gynecological Issues: It can also help with Painful Periods, Descending Bladder, Uterus or Rectum, Post Surgical Pain or Adhesions/Scarring.
Address Neurological Issues: Sleep Disorders & insomnia, Anxiety/Depression, Headaches/Migraines & Vertigo.
